The Story of the Beginning

2. BeginningBased on Genesis 1-2.

God has always existed. He is the Creator of everything. Using only His words, God caused the world, the heavens, and everything in them to come into being: the sun and moon, the land and sky, the oceans and mountains, the plants and animals. Everything he created was good; in fact, after describing each thing that He created, the Scriptures say, “God saw that it was good.” Finally, God created the first man and the first woman—Adam and Eve. He blessed them and said that they were “very good.” God placed Adam and Eve in a beautiful garden where they could get everything they needed to live. He told them to take care of the garden and enjoy it. But He gave them one special command: “You must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. If you eat from it you will certainly die.” Adam and Eve listened to God and had a wonderful relationship with Him in the garden. Certainly, everything was very good…

It’s obvious that the world is no longer “good.” Bad things happen all the time—to both good and bad people. What happened? Do you think God changed . . . or did people change?

What must happen for the world and humanity to return to being “good” and right? Is it possible that God had a plan from the very beginning?

“The earth is the LORD’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it; for he founded it on the seas and established it on the waters.” -Psalm 24:1-2
